Welcome to the Greenville Foothills Pony Club!
GFPC is a thriving club that operates with the United States Pony Club’s mission and standards as its forefront goals. We currently have 38 members who range in age from 11 to 23. Members in our club live in the Carolina foothills covering a six county area from Polk County, NC down south to Oconee County, SC.
Our club is unique in that all possible ratings in the Pony Club system are exhibited in our club—even an A (the first one in our club since 1992, and the first in our region since 2008)! Currently, the ratings of our members are UR (1), D-1 (2), D-2 (4), D-3 (4), C-1 (7), C-2 (8), HB (5), C+ (1), C-3 (2), and B (3), and A (1).
GFPC is run completely by volunteers and relies on fundraising and donations to cover all costs. Our annual financial goal through fundraising is to provide our instruction program to our members free of charge.
Our members are interested in community involvement and land conservation. We seek to instill a sense of community by volunteering as a club at area schooling shows with Foothills Riding Club and Riverbend Equestrian Park and by developing reciprocal relationships with area organizations including Tryon Riding and Hunt Club, Green Creek Hounds, Tryon Hounds, and Greenville County. In addition, we have ongoing projects at our monthly meetings to promote land preservation.
Pony Club: Sportsmanship, Stewardship, Leadership through Horsemanship
Our mission is to develop character, leadership, confidence and a sense of community in youth through a program that teaches the care of horses and ponies, riding and mounted sports. Pony Club members develop sound moral judgment, leadership skills, confidence, unselfishness, a sense of responsibility, sportsmanship, discipline – attributes for a lifetime– while becoming proficient young horsewomen and horsemen.
Core Values:
• Horsemanship, with respect to healthcare, nutrition, stable management, handling and riding a mount safely, correctly and with confidence.
• Organized teamwork including cooperation, communication, responsibility, leadership, mentoring, teaching and fostering a supportive yet competitive environment.
• Respect for the horse and self through horsemanship, for land through land conservation, and for others through service and teamwork.
• Service by providing an opportunity for members, parents and others to support the Pony Club program locally, regionally and nationally through volunteerism.
• Education at an individual pace to achieve personal goal and expand knowledge. |
